The Diamondbacks, who have remained on the fringes of the National League West, have looked into the possibility of trading for Matt Garza, sources say.
Diamondbacks general manager Kevin Towers, never shy to make a move, has let it be known that he would like to improve the rotation. Garza, who has a 3.91 ERA this year with the Cubs, would be a significant upgrade.
The Cubs have been trying hard to move Garza in advance of Tuesday's 4 p.m. non-waiver deadline, even though he hasn't pitched since July 21 due to what the Cubs described as a cramp in his right triceps.
The Rangers and Blue Jays have also had some interest in Garza.
