Two more postseason HRs for Beltran, who says: "Who doesn't like playing in these games?"

By Danny Knobler | Baseball Insider

ST. LOUIS -- Carlos Beltran belongs in the postseason.

The Mets couldn't take him there the last five years. The Giants couldn't take him there last year.

"At this stage of my career, I was looking for a team that could give me this opportunity," Beltran said Monday, after adding a few more postseason highlights to a career already full of them.

He hit two home runs in the Cardinals' 12-4 Game 2 win over the Nationals. But not just any old home runs, not for Carlos Beltran, not in October.

The first one hit the facing of the second deck in left field. The Cardinals estimated that one at 441 feet. The next one went over the bullpen in left. They estimated that one at 439 feet.

That's 880 feet worth of homers in one day.

In 25 career games over three postseasons with three different teams, Beltran now has 13 home runs and a .362 batting average.

He was unbelievable in 2004 with the Astros (including in the NLCS against the Cardinals), leading to his $119 million, seven-year contract with the Mets.

Many Mets fans focus on his series-ending strikeout against Adam Wainwright in the 2006 NLCS, but Beltran hit three home runs in that series.

"Who doesn't like playing in these games?" he said Monday. "This is something I was looking forward to, to be with a team that had a chance to win a championship."

He's here. And he belongs.
