Scout on A-Rod: 'Did not look major-league ready'

By Danny Knobler | Baseball Insider

Alex Rodriguez's first day in Double-A was an encouraging one.

Or was it?

With a week to go in his 20-day rehab assignment in the minor leagues, A-Rod went 2-for-4, hit a home run and played seven innings in the field for Double-A Trenton on Monday night in Reading, Pa. Not bad.

"Slow bat, slow feet defensively, not much arm strength," said one scout in attendance. "Overall, didn't show much to get excited about.

"Did not look ML [major-league] ready to me."

On second thought.

The scout offered that there's a chance that A-Rod was already bored by the minor leagues and was just going through the motions. He also admitted that the home run was "crushed," even if it did come off a mistake pitch.

"I'll give him that much," the scout said.

Rodriguez's other hit was a "weakly hit grounder to third base that took a bad hop," the scout said.

At least he still has a week to go.
