Lloyd McClendon nearly got the Mariners managing job three years ago.

He may get it this time.

McClendon made it through to the Mariners' second round of interviews, sources said, and was in Seattle on Sunday. reported earlier that Chip Hale would have a second interview on Monday.

The Mariners are also believed to be considering Dave Wallach and Joey Cora, and reported Monday that Rick Renteria is a fifth finalist for the job. Ron Wotus and Dave Valle were also reported to have had at least an initial interview, but aren't believed to have made it to the second round.

The team wants to name a new manager this week.

McClendon is the only one in the group with major-league managerial experience, having led the Pirates for nearly five seasons. He spent the last eight years on Jim Leyland's coaching staff with the Tigers, and was a candidate for the Tigers job that went to Brad Ausmus.

McClendon was a Mariners finalist in 2010, but the team eventually chose to hire Eric Wedge instead. Wedge resigned in the final days of the 2013 season.
