Vladimir Guerrero will consider Japan if no major league team calls

TEMPE, Ariz. -- Vladimir Guerrero will consider going to Japan to play if there are no offers from major league teams by the end of spring training, agent Fern Cuza told CBSSports.com.

"He still wants to play,'' Cuza said.

Guerrero, 37, hit .290 in 2011 but had career lows in on-base percentage (.317) and slugging percentage (.416) in his one season in Baltimore. He along with several other DHs are hampered by most AL teams showing an interest in having versatility from their DH spot. The Tigers thought about Guerrero when Victor Martinez suffered a season-ending knee injury this winter but wound up signing Prince Fielder instead.

The sure Hall of Famer would like to hit major-league milestones and has 449 career home runs and 1,496 RBIS, but his motivation apparently goes well beyond the numbers.
