Nats pending deal with Haren leaves Rangers as Dodgers' main rival for Greinke

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- The Dodgers could be left with the Rangers as their main combatant in the Zack Greinke sweepstakes once Dan Haren's deal with the Nationals is finalized.

Washington had been seen as one of the main players for Greinke but will have five very capable starting pitchers if Haren's $13-0million, one-year deal is finalized with them. The Angels and Braves are looked upon as long shots in the Greinke derby at the moment.

There has been a feeling the Dodgers will try to blow away Greinke and lap the field, though one rival Gm suggested it's possible they may just be trying to scare other possible suitors away. The Rangers won't be scared away, though, and are expected to make a strong bid to land the righthander they've tried for twice previously.

The expectation has been that the Rangers can only afford one of either Greinke or their own free agent star Josh Hamilton. But that may depend on how strong the Hamilton market is ultimately.
