Brewers, Angels, Marlins & others eying K-Rod

Francisco Rodriguez finished last season with a 2-7 record and 4.38 ERA for Milwaukee. (USATSI)

Free agent reliever Francisco Rodriguez has been drawing interest from the Brewers, Marlins, Angels and a few other teams.

With several teams struggling early in the bullpen, K-Rod's market has picked up in recent days. Perhaps the Brewers, with a 27th best in baseball 6.11 bullpen ERA, are a logical landing spot. Efrain Ruiz reported recently that Rodriguez could be close to a Brewers deal. @BrewerNation also mentioned the Brewers' interest, suggesting an offer could be made.

The Angels, with a 19th best 4.94 pen ERA, and the Marlins, whose ERA out of the pen is a 28th best 6.31, appear to have some interest as well.

While K-Rod finished last year with a 2-7 record and 4.38 ERA for Milwaukee, his 1.20 ERA from Sept 1 on represented an improvement. His average fastball velocity was also up, to 91.8.

K-Rod pitched for his native Venezuela in the WBC.

The Brewers, Marlins and Angels are all off to slow starts. K-Rod began his career with the Angels, who have begun a shocking 2-6 this season, so two of the interested teams are former employers. The Angels have had concerns about their pen since spring training, when closer Ryan Madson suffered a setback. Madson is hoping to return soon, however.
