Daisuke has deal to pitch for Mets

Daisuke Matsuzaka has a deal with the Mets, sources say.

Word is, he is expected to go right to the big leagues with the Mets. Matsuzaka, famed for the gyroball and more, should join a rotation hurt by injuries to Jeremy Hefner and Jennry Mejia. He could possibly start for the Mets as early as Friday

Reports have been good on Matsuzaka in the minors, and word is he had a few teams bidding on him.

Matsuzaka was pitching in the minor leagues for the Indians, who have a deep stash of starters and didn't need him. So he worked out a way to be released so he could sign with a team that could use him in the rotation immediately.

Matsuzaka was an early sensation for the Red Sox but ultimately he had a hard time living up to the $103 million they spent on him, between the record (at the time) $51-million posting fee and his $52-million contract. He helped them win the 2007 World Series before the downturn.
