Chip Hale interviews for Mariners manager job today

BOSTON -- A's bench coach Chip Hale is interviewing with the Mariners today.

Seattle has kept a pretty tight lid n their lengthy list, but previously reported Hale was a candidate, as well as Giants coach Ron Wotus, ex-Reds manager Pete Mackanin and Red Sox coach Torey Lovullo. The list is thought to be two dozen names, though.

Hale, 48, has been a longtime major-league coach. He was a candidate for the Mets managerial job that went to Terry Collins.

He was a major-league infielder who hit .277 over several years but is perhaps best remembered for a minor-league game when he hit a fly ball and Rodney McCray ran right through the fence, one of the most replayed plays in history.
