Disappointed Rockies planning no big front-office changes

ST. LOUIS -- The Colorado Rockies plan no major changes in their front-office hierarchy, people familiar with the situation say.

There had been rumors of a possible overhaul despite owner Dick Monfort saying late in the season that the team wasn't planning to undergo an overhaul. A year ago the team altered the responsibilities of GM Dan O'Dowd and Bill Geivett, the director of major-league operations, with O'Dowd taking on a bigger role in player development.

The Rockies finished 74-88, and while that represented an improvement, the last-place finish was disappointing. First-year manager Walt Weiss received a three-year deal despite a belief by some the team underachieved.

The Rockies believe their biggest problem has been the inability to keep superstars Troy Tulowitzki and Carlos Gonzalez on the field simultaneously. Gonzalez played 110 games this season, Tulowitzki 126.

The Rockies have been hampered by more injuries than just about any team over the past decade. The altitude has been a puzzle, though the use of a humidor seemed to solve it for awhile.
