BOSTON -- Dodgers third base coach Tim Wallach will be interviewing for the Mariners' managerial job, according to sources.

Wallach, the current third-base coach of the Dodgers, interviewed previously for the Detroit Tigers' managerial opening.

Wallach brings to five the number of known Mariners candidates, along with Giants bench coach Ron Wotus, A's bench coach Chip Hale, Padres bench coach Rick Renteria and Tigers hitting coach Lloyd McClendon.

Wallach, a star third baseman in the big leagues, has been a minor-league manager or major-league coach with the Dodgers for 10 years. A few years ago, the Nationals were among teams turned down for permission to interview him.

The Mariners are said to have a very long list, so the fivesome may just be the tip of the iceberg.

Their previous manager Eric Wedge, who decided not to return when his contract expired after the season, interviewed Tuesday for the Cubs managerial job.
