Young Indians catcher Gomes has six-year, $23 million deal

The Indians have an agreement with promising young catcher Yan Gomes, according to sources.

The agreement, pending a physical, is for $23 million over six years.

The contract is the largest ever pre-arbitration deal for a catcher, breaking the mark of Carlos Santana, the man Gomes displaced.

The deal covers two pre-arbitration years, three arbitration years and one free agent year.

Gomes his .294 in 88 games last season with Cleveland.
