Mets, first-round pick Conforto still negotiating after agreeing to bonus

The Mets and top draft choice Michael Conforto, the No. 10 pick overall, agreed to a signing bonus at precisely $2.97 million slot value about two weeks ago but curiously the deal still isn't quite done.

And while Mets general manager Sandy Alderson expressed faith a deal would get done, a few unresolved issues still remain.

"There are three or four [mostly] non-financial clauses that we are talking about," Alderson said, explaining the delay.

Conforto, a left-handed hitting outfielder from Oregon State, is viewed by draft experts as an exceptional hitter and solid left fielder, and it is tought he could move very fast to the big leagues. That is, assuming this deal is signed, and Alderson suggested he has confidence it will.

Said Alderson, "I certainly expect this deal to get done."
