MLB exec Kim Ng said to be under consideration for Padres GM job

Kim Ng, MLB's senior VP for baseball operations, is under consideration for the vacant Padres general manager job, people familiar with the search say.

Ng, the former assistant GM with the Dodgers and Yankees, would be looking to become the first female GM in any sport if her potential candidacy progresses. Ng was previously interviewed for GM jobs with the Dodgers, Mariners and the same Padres, who hired Jed Hoyer at that time.

The Arizona Republic reported that Diamondbacks scouting director Ray Montgomery would be interviewed, bringing to seven the number of known interviewees. The list is expected to grow, as people say they are trying to consider all the best candidates they can find.

Those known to be under consideration also include Dodgers scouting director Logan White, ex-Marlins GM Larry Beinfest, Yankees assistant GM Billy Eppler, Rangers assistant GM A.J. Preller, Red Sox assistant GM Mike Hazen and Padres assistant GM A.J. Hinch.

A's assistant GM David Forst and Cubs scouting director Jason McLeod declined chances to interview for the job, and Padres VP Omar Minaya also declined an interview, citing family reasons.

Some other names that have been mentioned in the media as possibilities include Rangers assistant GM Thad Levine, Yankees scouting director Damon Oppenheimer, A's assistant GM Farhan Zaidi, Braves assistant GM John Coppolella and Cardinals assistant GM Michael Girsch.

Ex-Padres GM Kevin Towers, currently Arizona's GM, has been mentioned as a possibility as well, and he has ties to Montgomery.
