Mariners, Yankees considering Twins outfielder Josh Willingham

The Yankees and Mariners are two of several teams looking at Twins slugging outfielder Josh Willingham as Thursday's trade deadline approaches.

While Willingham is batting only .219 he has 10 homers and 29 RBI despite missing more than a month earlier. Willingham also has an expiring contract and a reasonable $7-million salary, adding to the appeal.

The Mariners badly need righthanded power. The Yankees have been disappointed by their offense.

If Willingham were to go to the Yankees, he'd be reunited with manager Joe Girardi, who managed him in Florida with the Marlins in 2006.
