Yankees, White Sox talking about Danks, but gap still remains

More MLB: Power Rankings | Expert Picks | Latest news & notes | Fantasy news

The Yankees and White Sox are still discussing John Danks as a trade possibility, but the latest word is the sides were still apart in terms of the package New York would send back.

Danks, who is 9-6 with a 4.40 ERA, is a lefty the Yankees would like to have, but with two years to go on his $65 million, five-year contract, his trade value may be somewhat limited.

The Yankees have lost four of their five starters from the start of the season and would prefer to move David Phelps to the bullpen. They also have been shut out of talks for bigger pitchers, such as Jon Lester and David Price, who both pitch in the AL East. The price tag on Cole Hamels has been deemed much too high at this point.

Danks is still able to win, but one scout noted that his decreased velocity is a bit of a concern.

The White Sox are trying to get younger and gain flexibility as they continue their rebuilding plan, which has gotten a big boost with the prescient signing of first baseman Jose Abreu and some other moves.
