Yankees, Dodgers among those vying for top reliever Joaquin Benoit

The Yankees and Dodgers could be engaging in a big-market battle for Joaquin Benoit, the top reliever remaining on the market.

Other teams are in, as well, but it could turn into a tussle between the two storied clubs.

New York, perhaps frustrated by the thin starting pitching market for them (they never had a shot at Jon Lester or David Price), are considering trying to put together a "super bullpen," with also Dellin Betances and David Robertson.

L.A. is comfortable with Kenley Jansen and J.P. Howell but is looking to fortify its pen, a rare issue on a very strong team.

Benoit's $8-million salary for next year shouldn't be an issue for either team.

San Diego could keep Benoit, but with at least two big-market teams involved, they should be able to get a decent return.
