Things are heating up around David Price, and the belief now is that he has a good chance to be traded. Joel Sherman of the New York Post reported Price will be traded by the 4 p.m. ET deadline.

Talks heated up Thursday after Jon Lester was dealt from the Red Sox to the Athletics.

The Rays always were willing to deal Price, even though the team has rallied from a poor start to the season.

The Mariners, Pirates and Dodgers are among teams looking at starting pitching, but almost any contender would have interest in Price, one of the game's best pitchers.

Price, a 28-year-old left-hander, is 11-8 with a 3.11 ERA this season. He leads the majors with 189 strikeouts and 170 2/3 innings pitched. He's not set to hit free agency until after the 2015 season, but the Rays won't be able to retain him at that point.

If Price isn't traded Thursday, he could still be dealt in the offseason, but any acquiring team Thursday would get Price for potentially two pennant races instead of one.
