Bochy 'not really' OK with Romo in-game TV interviews but will allow it

By Scott Miller | Senior Baseball Columnist

DETROIT -- Midway through Game 2, Giants manager Bruce Bochy glanced to his left in the dugout and nearly did a double-take.

There was Sergio Romo, one of San Francisco's main World Series bullpen options, wearing a headset and chatting away on the live television broadcast as subject of the in-game interview.

"Am I OK with it?" Bochy said Saturday afternoon before Game 3. "Not really.

"It's where the game has changed."

Bochy said he had absolutely no knowledge that Romo was going to do the in-game interview until, literally, he happened to look that way and see Romo on the air.

As things turned out, Romo did pitch not long afterward. He worked the ninth inning in the Giants' 2-0 win, mowing the Tigers down 1-2-3.

Because of that, Bochy said, if Romo goes on television again in the middle of Game 3 tonight, it's fine.

"I'll let him go," Bochy said. "He showed he can handle it."

The Giants manager joked that he should have told Romo to start warming in Game 2 immediately after the television interview, just to check the reaction.

"It's good to keep Romo busy, though," Bochy said. "He's gotta do something."
