Don't rule out Danica Patrick ever competing again in the Indianapolis 500, which could become part of her future Memorial Day weekend doubleheader schedule as soon as next season.

As Patrick readies for her first Coca-Cola 600 in Charlotte on Sunday, she says a return to Indy has not been ruled out. However it would not come at the expense of Patrick's new career in NASCAR.

"Oh, that's not a mystery that if I did the Indy 500, that's what it would be," said Patrick confirming the plan of an Indy-Charlotte double. "As long as everything works out, and we're able to transition to Cup, that would be awesome. It would have been some sort of double if I'd done it this (year). That's just the way it would go down, and that would be a hell of a lot of work, but I'm sure it would be pretty fun."

While Patrick will do ten Sprint Cup races this season in addition to the full Nationwide Series slate, her complete plans for 2013 are not finalized. But even if she does move up to NASCAR's top series on a full-time basis next season, adding the Indy 500 to the mix would not be an issue.

"I think that Indy is special to me," said Patrick. "The greater the distance between the last time I drove an Indy car and the next time, I wouldn't like that to be too big. If I were to attempt it, I wouldn't want to do anything that would tarnish all my great memories and the successes that I've had there by going out in an attempt that wouldn't be comfortable for me. So yeah, that would be awesome."
