BROOKLYN, Mich. - Joey Logano's victory in last Sunday's Pocono 400 Presented by #NASCAR was just what the Joe Gibbs Racing driver needed to kick his season - and possibly career - into high gear.
Logano's second career Sprint Cup win in conjuction with his stellar Nationwide Series effort this year that has included four wins has the young driver feeling very good about things this week at Michigan International Speedway.
"We've been on a roll here lately," Logano said Friday morning at MIS. "We just have to keep that going. We've had a lot of top-10 finishes on the Sprint Cup side and on the Nationwide side we've been able to knock off four wins here. We just have to keep that rolling."
There has been much speculation about Logano's future since the Gibbs team hasn't officially indicated his return next season when his contract runs out at year's end. But Logano insists he's not using that unkown as any kind of motivation and is simply giving his all as he's always done throughout his career.
“I've always thought it was time for me to shine," Logano said. "This year doesn't change my attitude any, but winning races and stuff like that obviously makes it look like that. That's alright with me.
"I think we've had some really good cars here lately. I think Adam Stevens (18 Nationwide Series crew chief) and Jason Ratcliff (20 Sprint Cup crew chief) are doing a really good job on both race cars and giving me what I need to win races. They've given me the stuff and we're making the best out of our opportunities out there.”
Logano's recent success has helped him climb up the Sprint Cup point standings. He is 15th coming into the weekend but says there's no focus or strategy in place to gain points. Logano's goal is simply to keep winning.
"There's different philosophies on everything, but I think when you have a shot to win you have to take that shot because they mean so much," he said. "These races are hard to win. Anytime you get a chance to win a race, you want to take it because I found out its pretty fun to win these things.”
