One-of-a-kind Pocono supplies everyday racing

Unless you are a Kyle Busch fan, last week's race at Dover was one of the dullest of the season.

You ain't seen nothing yet.

Sunday's Pocono 500 at the oddly shaped Pocono International Raceway has all the ingredients to be another snoozer.

The 2.5-mile triangle is one of the most unique on the schedule with its three distinct turns and straightaways, including the longest front stretch in NASCAR at 3,740 feet.

The track layout doesn't allow for much side-by-side racing and usually after the opening laps, the field is strung out in a single-file line around the speedway.

That makes for one of the most boring races on the Sprint Cup schedule.

Now throw the new Sprint Cup car into the equation, which will make its Pennsylvania debut, and the prospects are there for an even more lackluster afternoon.

And most of the drivers are expecting it.

"Pocono is just one of those places that's not high-banked, so it doesn't have a lot of different grooves," said Tony Stewart. "Any time you have one groove in one particular corner, it just makes it where you're stuck following guys. And any time you're following, you can't move around on the racetrack, and that makes it hard to pass. With the new car and everybody still trying to figure out what we have to do to make these things great, that's what's going to make it worse than normal.

"We just can't get around each other."

NASCAR held a test at Pocono two weeks ago so drivers and teams could get a feel for the new car at the tricky track.

The reviews were mixed.

Some, including two-time Pocono winner Denny Hamlin, felt the new car didn't handle any differently than the old Cup car.
