| Ken Berger's 2010 3-Point Contest Preview |
| By Ken Berger | |
The Knicks haven't had a real All-Star since 2001, but they've been the darlings of the preliminary events with Nate Robinson's two dunk titles and David Lee scoring MVP of the Rookie Challenge in 2007. I'm predicting another consolation prize for James Dolan's empire -- Danilo Gallinari is my MVP pick. Gallo isn't shooting the highest 3-point percentage this season among the competitors, but he's the best pure shooter in the group. More importantly, he's a rhythm shooter. Once he gets going, look out. What is the biggest key to mastering the 3-point shootout? I posed this question to 2001 champ Ray Allen, and his answer was simple: Skip the parties and get some sleep. "When you get to the 3-point shootout, you figure you haven't slept for two nights because you've been hanging out with friends and family and traveling," Allen said. "Allen Iverson one year didn't make it around the top of the key. And it was hilarious. He was like, 'Man, I just need some rest.' So if you know you're competing in any one of those skills challenges, you definitely have to find some time to get some rest." | |
