Cavaliers G Kyrie Irving to have hand surgery

From the Las Vegas Summer League court to the operating room.

The Cleveland Cavaliers announced on Monday that guard Kyrie Irving will undergo surgery on Wednesday after fracturing a bone in his right hand practicing for Summer League.

The decision to undergo surgery was made after Irving met with Cavaliers doctors Monday in Cleveland, where an examination confirmed his injury.

The injury happened when Irving "slapped the padding on the wall at the practice site" according to the Cavaliers.

Irving, 20, played for the Select team that helped USA Basketball's 2012 Olympics team prepare for London and had planned to participate in the Summer League. The NBA's reigning Rookie of the Year impressed USA Basketball's management, coaching staff and players during scrimages last week.

He is expected to be good to go for training camp in advance of the 2012-13 season.

Irving averaged 18.5 points, 5.4 assists, 3.7 rebounds and 1.1 steals per game for the Cavaliers last season.
