Grizzlies re-sign Hamed Haddadi

By Matt Moore | NBA writer

The Memphis Grizzlies have announced they've re-signed center Hamed Haddadi. The Iranian-born Haddadi has spent the past four seasons in Memphis, playing in 35 games last season. Haddadi has never shown the ability to put in consistent minutes, but with the center market as it is, the Grizzlies need a reserve center.

It would be wise for the Grizzlies to let Haddadi get a few more minutes at times next season. Marc Gasol showed a noticeable amount of wear and tear last season. The Grizzlies need him in prime position when the playoffs hit. The Grizzlies often went to dual-stretch-four lineups and they may use even more of that with Darrell Arthur back from injury next season. But there are times when Memphis just needs size, and Haddadi's got that. On the scale of awful reserve centers in the NBA, Haddadi doesn't register on the "worthless" end. He's capable and hard-working, if slow on his rotations and unable to get up and down the floor. He'll be 27 next season, so there's not a lot of upside there.

But as a stop-gap, Haddadi will do just fine.

The Memphis Commercial-Appeal first reported the deal.
