Orlando Magic owner Rich DeVos in 'good condition' after suffering 'mild stroke'

Rich DeVos, the owner of the Orlando Magic, is in "good condition" after suffering a "mild stroke" in August, according to CBSSports.com wire reports.

DeVos, 86, is the co-founder of Amway, Inc., a Michigan-based sales company. He reportedly suffered the stroke on Aug. 19 and was released from the hospital on Aug. 21 after "tests and observation." He is now recuperating at his home.

The Magic, which DeVos has owned since 1991, endured a turbulent year.

Magic CEO Bob Vander Weide, DeVos' son-in-law, abruptly resigned back in December 2011. Following a public trade request from Dwight Howard and a tense back-and-forth negotiation between the Magic and their franchise center at the trade deadline, former coach Stan Van Gundy told reporters that he knew that Howard approached management about getting him fired. Soon after, Howard elected to have season-ending back surgery and, without Howard, the Magic were easily eliminated in the first round of the Eastern Conference playoffs by the Indiana Pacers.

The Magic then fired Van Gundy and parted ways with former GM Otis Smith back in May. Soon after, new Magic CEO Alex Martins was called "unprofessional" by Jeff Van Gundy. Finally, after months of speculation, the Magic traded Howard to the Los Angeles Lakers on Aug. 11, receiving pennies on the dollar in return.
