Video: Bol Bol, son of Manute, shows promise as 6-foot-5 middle school hoops prospect

Manute Bol, the famous 7-foot-7 Sudanese center, passed away in 2010, but his name and basketball legacy are being carried on by his son.

Yahoo Sports reports that Bol Bol, a 6-foot-5 seventh grader, is following in his father's footsteps onto the basketball court. Currently playing in Kansas, Bol Bol was the subject of the highlight video shown above, put together by YouTube user CityLeagueHoops TV.

The footage, shot at a basketball camp in Indianapolis, shows Bol Bol's well-rounded game: he hits a face-up jumper, takes a defender off the dribble, wrestles away a rebound, glides to the hoop for a running layup, knocks down a 3-pointer and dishes a behind-the-back assist. Impressive stuff for any young teen and particularly surprising given that his father's hoops reputation was as a one-dimensional shot-blocker.

Where will Bol Bol's basketball journey take him? Who knows. But the hardwood truism that helped his father find an NBA roster spot -- "You can't coach height" -- hasn't changed a bit since 1985, when Manute broke into the league as a rookie with the Washington Bullets. Given his height, age and skill set, Bol Bol seems well on his way to a college scholarship. It doesn't take a crystal ball to realize that there are plenty more highlight reels coming in his future.
