VIDEO: Carmelo Anthony scores 42, ties Knicks' 3-point record

By Zach Harper | NBA writer

Against the Atlanta Hawks on Sunday, Carmelo Anthony scored 42 points and tied the New York Knicks franchise record with nine 3-pointers. He became the fourth Knicks' player to make nine 3-pointers in a game in the 34 years the 3-point shot has been around.

The other three Knicks' players to make nine threes in a game? Latrell Sprewell (twice), John Starks and Toney Douglas.

Melo torched the Hawks from everywhere on the floor. He scored from the midrange, he scored from the paint, but most of all he made a lot of 3-point buckets. Five of his nine made 3-pointers were wide-open looks, including the one where he pulled up from the "Madison Square Garden" sign just beyond half court.

He even made the go-ahead driving bucket against Josh Smith with 12.5 seconds left in the game and got fouled to give the Knicks a two-point lead and eventually the win.

That was full-on "Melo Olympic mode."
