Tim Duncan didn't play Sunday because he's 'old'

By Royce Young | NBA writer
Gregg Popovich doesn't take things too seriously. He's one of the greatest coaches ever, has four championship rings and consistently puts a good team out on the floor.

But he just doesn't take basketball too seriously. And the latest example was in Sunday's Spurs box score against the 76ers.

Popovich isn't shy about resting his players and when you turn in your lineup, you put the reason with it. "Injury," Personal Reasons," "Rest," whatever. But instead of that, Popovich was just honest with why he sat Tim Duncan. Because he's old. Check the box score from NBA.com:

Duncan, who is almost 36, somehow did pick up a technical foul despite not playing. Not because he's old though. Because he's Tim Duncan.

This isn't the first time Popovich has pulled this stunt, as he did it with Robert Horry in 2007 too.
