Stan Van Gundy says Magic assume Dwight Howard is '50-50' for the playoffs

By Matt Moore | NBA writer
After reports surfaced Saturday night, the Orlando Magic confirmed Sunday that All-Star center Dwight Howard woul be held out for 10-14 days and then re-evaluated for the condition of his herniated disc. But for the first time, Magic coach Stan Van Gundy revealed that there is a possibility that Howard could be missing for the playoffs.

Oh. That's not good. That's not good at all.

Without Howard, the Magic would have to be favored to be swept in the first round. Even if they were to negotiate a first round against the Hawks, they just wouldn't have enough at either end of the floor to survive a four-game series.

Howard said he wanted the Magic to "roll the dice" with him when he waived his early-termination-option for this summer. Looks like they're winding up with exactly those odds, if a little worse, considering reocvery time for conditioning. Dangerous times for the Magic.
