Report: Stan Van Gundy to take a year off

By Matt Moore | NBA writer
When Stan Van Gundy was fired as coach of the Magic, it was expected that he would have his pick of openings for where to coach next year. Van Gundy doesn't seem like the vacation type. But apparently he's prepared to take some time anyway. From the New York Daily News:

Even though Charlotte wants to talk to him about its coaching vacancy, Stan Van Gundy is looking to take the year off and then come back to coach in 2013-14.

I'd love to tell you what kind of positions SVG would be looking at in a year, but it's impossible. Often times good teams with rosters have bad years and then these positions open. That would be the best case scenario as SVG may not want to go through the rebuilding process.

He's passing up on likely opportunities or at least interviews in Charlotte and possibly with the Clippers. SVG is highly thought to prefer warm weather cities, and he's out of Florida options. A year in the sun might do him some good anyway, allow him to relax a little.

God knows he has earned it.
