By Matt Moore | NBA writer
The Boston Heraldreports that Ray Allenis set to undergo surgery Wednesday to remove bone spurs in his right ankle.

Allen will have surgery to remove bone spurs from the ankle at 6 a.m. on Wednesday at New England Baptist Hospital, according to a source.

The problem, which first surfaced during in Los Angeles during the C's' eight-game road trip in mid-March, eventually forced Allen to miss 15 regular-season games as well as the first two games of the Celtics' first-round playoff series against Atlanta.

Allen had indicated after Game 7 that he planned on having surgery soon considering the impact the injury had on his ability to cut throughout the playoffs. Allen was a shooting disaster in the Philadelphia series, even missing free throws, before nailing two huge threes in the fourth quarter of Game 7. Despite hitting some big shots throughout the Eastern Conference Finals, Allen was never the same player.

His decision to get the surgery immediately so he can rehab and get back to his habits speaks to his dedication and work ethic. You will not find a harder worker than Allen.

Allen will be a free agent this summer, but has expressed interest in returning to the Celtics. There has also been talk of his interest in joining the Heat, which would pretty much make all Celtics fans green. Wait, no, that's not right, maybe fuschia. Some other sickly color. Pale. That's it. Pale.
