Free Agency Buzz 7.1.12: Tim Duncan unlikely to negotiate with anyone but Spurs

By Matt Moore | NBA writer

The 2012 NBA Free Agency moratorium period began Sunday morning at 12:01 a.m.. Between Sunday and Monday the 11th, teams are allowed to contact and negotiate with players, but not sign them until the 11th. That means meetings! And interest! And lots and lots of "reports" and "sources."

We'll keep you up to date on the latest with the free agent mania here at Buzz central.

11:10 PM ET

  • Tim Duncan is having "good contractural" talks with the Spurs and is unlikely to negotiate with anyone else, reports Yahoo! Sports.

7:30 PM ET

  • According to ESPN.com, the Mavs get the first sitdown with Deron Williams on Monday, while the Nets will meet with him later that night.

5:30 PM ET

  • Berger says the Hawks might be the "busiest team in trade market" and has spoken with about 20 teams about deals.

4:20 PM ET

  • If the Raptors use the amnesty clause on Jose Calderon, which is very possible, the Lakers would be very interested in signing the Spanish guard to join fellow countryman Pau Gasol at point, via ESPN.
  • Paul Millsap is looking for an extension at more than $10 million per year, according to the Salt Lake Tribune. It's a little stunning with all the contracts being thrown around that no one is making a trade move for Millsap the Jazz can't turn down. He's an affordable near-All-Star.
  • The Bulls have interest via the Chicago Tribune in bringing Kirk Hinrich back. Bulls bloggers are just gonna love that.
  • ESPN reports that the Nets will reach out to Eric Gordon as a possible backup plan to Deron Williams. They'd have to get pretty lucky with the timing considering the aggressive schedule for Gordon suitors (see below).

4:10 PM ET

4:00 PM ET

  • The L.A. Times reports that the Lakers are interested in Brandon Rush and Nick Young. Clearly looking for a bench scorer to spread the floor.
  • Ken Berger reports the Nets have reached out and contacted Deron Williams in advance of the dual meetings Williams is holding with the Nets and Mavs on Monday. Getting a little extra advantage. It should be noted Cleveland had a similar setup prior to The Decision.

2:20 PM ET

2:00 PM ET

  • Brandon Bass is interested in re-signing in Boston, but also is looking at Indiana, Brooklyn, Dallas, Miami, New York and Atlanta, according to Yahoo! Sports.
  • Once he clears waivers, the Heat, Knicks, Lakers, Celtics and Hawks are expected to have interest in Rashard Lewis, according to Yahoo! Sports.
  • According to Yahoo! Sports, Phoenix has expressed interest with Landry Fields as part of possible sign-and-trade package with New York for Steve Nash.

1:30 PM ET

  • The Celtics are reportedly planning on offering Ray Allen a two-year, $12 million deal. That will trump what Miami can offer by double. The Heat can only give Allen a mini-midlevel for about $3 million per year.
  • The Raptors have offered Steve Nash a three-year, $36 million deal according to ESPN. It's pretty obvious that the Raptors are very serious about building something around the 38-year-old Nash.
  • The Wolves are also planning a major offer to restricted free agent Nicolas Batum, something in the $45-50 million range, according to CSNNW.com.
  • Jamal Crawford is has five potential suitors, according to NBA.com: Clippers, Celtics, Suns, Pacers and 76ers.

12:00 PM ET

  • Berger also notes the Nuggets did not tender a Qualifying Offer to Rudy Fernandez, so he's an unrestricted free agent. Probably a coin flip on him going back to Spain.
  • Berger reports that Roy Hibbert's offer sheet from Portland is for four-years, $58.4 million and that he's leaning that way. Not known right now whether the Pacers will match or not.
  • The Raptors continue to meet with Steve Nash. Some consider them the clubhouse leader.
