You can never replace a legend, but the former understudy will give it a shot.

The Phoenix Suns have reportedly agreed to sign unrestricted free agent point guard Goran Dragic to a 4-year contract worth $34 million, according to ESPN.com. Ken Berger of CBSSports.com has confirmed the deal, which has a player option on the final year.

The move comes just hours after the Suns agreed to sign-and-trade franchise point guard Steve Nash to the Los Angeles Lakers for four Draft picks and cash.

Dragic, 26, spent his first 2-plus seasons in the NBA backing up Nash in Phoenix before he was traded by the Suns to the Houston Rockets along with a first-round pick for guard Aaron Brooks at the 2011 trade deadline.

Dragic moved into a starting role with the Rockets towards the end of the 2011-12 season after Kyle Lowry missed an extended period of time battling a virus. He posted career-highs of 11.7 points and 5.3 assists in 26.5 minutes.

"Best of luck to Goran Dragic," Rockets GM Daryl Morey tweeted. "Great player and great person. He will be missed."

The writing seemed to be on the wall for Dragic in Houston, as the Rockets seemed to be in a position where they needed to choose between him and Lowry, two quality point guards who demand both starter minutes and starter salaries.

Dragic ranked as the No. 15 free agent in the CBSSports.com Top-40 free agents in the Class of 2012

The Suns also reportedly agreed to sign forward Michael Beasley on Wednesday. They had also been linked to unrestricted free agent guard Raymond Felton in recent days.

Contract offers cannot be made official until July 11, once the NBA's 10-day free agency moratorium is complete.
