Reports: Blazers agree to re-sign J.J. Hickson to 1-year deal

By Ben Golliver | Blogger

He'll be sticking around.

The Portland Trail Blazers have agreed to re-sign unrestricted free agent forward J.J. Hickson to a 1-year deal, according to Yahoo Sports and SI.com. SI.com reports the contract is worth $4 million.

Hickson was originally claimed by the Blazers off waivers after he was released by the Sacramento Kings back in March. He averaged 15.1 points and 8.3 rebounds in 19 games for Portland down the stretch, although the Blazers blew up their roster at the trade deadline and were playing mostly meaningless games.

Hickson is known for his hustle game, and he gets most of his buckets in the paint and working the offensive glass. He's also been known to rise high for highlight dunk or two. The Blazers initially did not offer Hickson a qualifying offer in order to maximize their salary cap flexibility entering the July free agency period, but then opted to return to him as a back-up plan after striking out on landing Indiana Pacers restricted free agent center Roy Hibbert.
