Los Angeles Clippers forward Blake Griffin reportedly suffered a left knee injury during a USA Basketball scrimmage on Wednesday, according to Yahoo Sports.

Blake Griffin hurt his knee in a Team USA scrimmage Wednesday and is returning to LA to be examined by team doctors. Blake Griffin "twisted" the knee in a scrimmage, source says, and the severity is unclear.

SI.com reports that Griffin "woke up with swelling" on Thursday morning.

Ken Berger of CBSSports.com reports that the Clippers are "waiting to hear from doctors on nature and severity" of the left knee injury.

Later Thursday, both USA Basketball and the Clippers officially confirmed that Griffin "experienced discomfort" in his left knee after "completing a full practice" on Wednesday. The Clippers stated that Griffin will undergo an MRI in Los Angeles and that he will be evaluated by the team's medical staff. This weekend, he will be examined by Dr. Neal ElAttrache of the Kerlan-Jobe Orthopaedic Clinic.

Griffin's status for participation in the rest of USA Basketball's preparations for the London Olympics is not yet known although he will not be available for Thursday night's exhibition game against the Dominican Republic in Las Vegas.

Griffin, 23, was the No. 1 pick in the 2009 NBA Draft but sat out his rookie season after suffering a stress fracture in his left knee, which required surgery. Griffin also hyperflexed his left knee during the 2012 playoffs.

Griffin signed a 5-year, $95 million contract extension earlier this week.

In the meantime, USA Basketball will call up New Orleans Hornets big man Anthony Davis, the 2012 NBA Draft's No. 1 pick, to replace Griffin, according to Yahoo Sports. Davis was one of three players kept as injury alternates after the final 12-man team was announced on Saturday. His participation has been limited in Team USA camp play because of a recent ankle sprain but he has been officially added to the roster for Thursday night's exhibition.
