Magic re-sign point guard Ish Smith

By Royce Young | NBA writer

The Orlando Magic re-signed free agent point guard Ish Smith, the team announced Wednesday.

In moving on from the Dwight Howard era, the Magic were in need of a backup point guard after including Chris Duhon in the four-team trade. Orlando wanted an inexpensive replacement that could be on a short deal as to not cloud the future salary cap situation. Smith will back up Jameer Nelson.

Smith, 24, played 26 combined games last season for Golden State and Orlando averaging 2.8 points, 1.6 assists and 1.3 rebounds in 9.0 minutes per game.
