Report: Wizards to sign Martell Webster

By Royce Young | NBA writer

Martell Webster has found his third team as he enters his eighth NBA season, with his previous two stops not working out so well.

According to ESPN.com, Webster has signed with the Washington Wizards following a workout in which evidently the team was impressed enough.

Webster spent last season with the Timberwolves but was cut by the team as they cleared room to make an offer to Nicolas Batum. Of course the Wolves didn't end up landing Batum, meaning Webster was essentially cut for nothing.

He was the sixth overall pick in 2005 by the Blazers and never has been able to find a place in the league as a scorer. He's always been a solid perimeter defender, but hasn't lived up to his draft expectations.

With the Wizards, he'll likely just provide a little wing depth behind rookie Bradley Beal, Jan Vesely, Trevor Ariza and Chris Singleton.

The Wizards now have 15 players under contract on their roster.

Webster, 25, averaged 6.9 points, 3.6 rebounds and 0.9 assists per game with a PER of 10.02 in 47 appearance last season.
