Sacramento Kings can't even keep open their official online team store

Pardon their dust. Really, pardon everything about these guys.

After trying and failing to relocate to Anaheim and then trying and failing to broker a new arena deal in Sacramento, the Kings have managed to hit another new low: they haven't been able to keep open their official online merchandise shop for more than two months.

CBS 13 Sacramento reports that the Kings have been operating without a functioning e-commerce website since June 15, when their previous e-commerce partner mysteriously went under.

“We had a company that was helping us with our website and these are lean times in the economy,” Kings spokesman Chris Clark said. “They're in business one day, the next day they're gone.”

And gone was the Kings' team shop website.

“In the e-commerce industry, it takes about four months to build a website from scratch, and the way the company went under it kind of left us in a lurch,” Clark said.

For some context, the Kings aren't exactly the hottest ticket right now. Sacramento ranked No. 27 out of 30 in home attendance last year and finished in the Pacific Division basement for the fifth time in six seasons.

Their jerseys aren't exactly the league's hottest ticket either. Indeed, an ESPN.com list recently ranked the Kings dead last -- No. 122 out of 122 major American professional sports teams -- when it comes to jersey design.

Every class has a slow kid pulling up the rear, and in this case it's the Kings. Where shall we start -- the brutal color scheme? The illegible chest lettering on the home jersey? The oddly off-center front uni numbers? The clownish number font? The completely incongruous old-school script on the black alternate? A disaster from start to finish. On the bright side, there's nowhere to go but up!

Still, the Kings aren't without marketable players. No matter how ugly the jerseys, there are a handful of players that some fans just might want to represent in public. Tyreke Evans, although he's slipped, was the 2010 Rookie of the Year. Everyone loves spunky guard Isaiah Thomas, DeMarcus Cousins is a blooming (albeit moody) star, and the Kings just drafted the highly-regarded Thomas Robinson in June. Most importantly, Jimmer Fredette was responsible for a massive increase in memorabilia sales as recently as last December.

Of course, this all goes back to ownership and its burned bridges in the local community. Who wants to invest in a t-shirt if the Maloof family can't stick to a plan that will ensure fans will be able to wear that t-shirt to a game for the foreseeable future? No one, that's who.
