Video: Reggie Miller thanks Cheryl Miller in tearful Naismith Hall of Fame induction speech

By Ben Golliver | Blogger

Indiana Pacers guard Reggie Miller thanked his sister, legendary women's basketball player Cheryl Miller, in a heartfelt and tear-jerking 2012 Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame induction speech in Springfield, Mass., on Friday night.

"There's one lady that deserves probably the biggest recognition of everyone for why I'm here," Miller said. "Cheryl, you -- a lot of people wish that they could be in a house with the greatest of anything. I just so happened to live across the hall from absolutely, positively the greatest women's basketball player ever."

He then led the crowd in a round of applause for his sister, who was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1995. Cheryl Miller served as one of three presenters for her brother at the ceremony, along with NBA legends Magic Johnson and Charles Barkley.

"I'm proud to say that I'm not on this stage if it wasn't for you, Cheryl Dean," Miller continued, his voice wavering. "We as a Miller family are not held at a high level if it wasn't for you. We rode your shoulders all the way here. So thank you very much."

Miller then walked over to his sister to deliver a big hug and receive a kiss on the cheek.

Cheryl Miller, 48, won a gold medal at the 1984 Olympics and two NCAA titles at USC. She once scored 105 points in a high school game. Her post-basketball career has included work as a college and WNBA coach and executive. She currently is a sideline reporter for TNT.
