In a video seemingly designed to torture YouTube commenters, New York Knicks guard Iman Shumpert takes the iPhone 5 -- the latest and greatest tech gadget -- and absolutely destroys it by using it as a basketball on a concrete court.
As iPhone enthusiasts lined up for hours (sometimes days) across the country for Friday's release date, Shumpert was busy lining up at the 3-point line, shooting the white version of the smart phone at a metal hoop and trying to dribble it between his legs in a mock review posted to YouTube by NOC.
"I'm sitting in New York City with the new iPhone 5," Shumpert declares. "Check this thing out. It's thinner and lighter than the iPhone 4, and I can definitely feel the difference. The four-inch retina display is a huge plus. I'm liking what I'm seeing. But here's the real question: Does the iPhone 5 work as a basketball?"
He then puts the iPhone through its paces, rising to dunk it at one point.
"There you have it," he concludes, throwing the pieces of the junked phone to the ground. "IPhone 5: a good phone, not a very good basketball."
It's good to see Shumpert, 22, having some fun after a brutal knee injury ended his season in April, even if it comes at the expense of technophiles everywhere.
"It hurts my heart to watch this," reads the top-rated YouTube comment. Others suggested that he should have donated the phone to someone in need. The cheapest version of the iPhone 5 retails for $649 without a contract.
"I feel so bad doing this to the iPhone 5," Shumpert says as the video ends. "I feel so bad."
