Nobody likes to see this kind of stuff, even if it's a rookie many fans and pundits want to label as a bust before the season starts.
In the first half of the Hornets' preseason game in Dallas, Austin Rivers drives down the left side and goes up for a layup. Elton Brand challenges the shot and as Rivers comes down from the missed attempt, his right foot basically goes perpendicular to the ground.
(This video isn't the worst injury you've ever seen but it won't be pleasant, either)
Jim Eichenhofer of Hornets.com tweeted that Rivers "sustained a sprained right ankle in the first half at Dallas. He is doubtful to return."
I'm not a doctor but I play one on this blog. I would imagine that ankle sprain is going to keep Rivers out for a few weeks, at least. It looked so bad.
Maybe a little good news on the horizon, though, was Marc Stein of ESPN.com tweeting "Little consolation right now but vibe from Hornets is rising optimism that Eric Gordon will be ready Opening Night. EG it through AM shoot."
So one point shooting guard is gone for them for a bit but perhaps their best perimeter player is going to return for opening night on Halloween against the San Antonio Spurs.
