Dwight Howard told reporters Monday that he doesn't approve of the NBA's changes to the All-Star Ballot which removed position designations.

So the best center in the league doesn't like something that removes his designation from the ballot and opens the door for Howard to miss selection if he has a down year? I, for one, am stunned.

The league changed the ballot this year, removing player designations and changing it to simply "guards" and "frontcourt players." It's a move that reflects the changing of the league towards versatility and smaller players. Kevin Garnett is a center, LeBron James is a power forward. It's a different NBA and a different ballot for it. It's just not favorable to Howard.

Howard's a guarantee to make the game. It's a popularity contest after all and he's a star on the Lakers. This is a no-brainer. But Howard's dominance at the position is related to the move. Howard has no serious competition for best at that position, and there's no reason not to reward the better players when there are so few centers worthy of the designation.

Howard has nothing to worry about, and more worthy guys will get the honor. This is a win-win, no matter what Howard thinks.
