Nightly Grades 11.15.12: Jason Kidd's DeLorean and Brooklyn

Each night, Eye on Basketball brings you what you need to know about the games of the NBA. From great performances to terrible clock management the report card evaluates and eviscerates the good, the bad, and the ugly from the night that was.

Jason Kidd and your undefeated New York KnicksJason Kidd had three of his four 3-pointers and nine of his 14 points in the fourth quarter as the Knicks shot a blistering 60 percent from the field in the final 12 minutes to close out a road win in San Antonio. The Knicks remain the league's only undefeated team at 6-0 and head to Memphis Friday night. After going 4-of-6 from downtown in this game, Kidd has now made 11 of his 20 3-point attempts to begin the season.
LeBron JamesNo big deal. Just a 27-point, 12-assist, seven-rebound, three-block night for LeBron. He was 11-of-23 from the field for the game. LeBron had eight of his 27 points in the fourth quarter and scored or assisted on 13 of the Heat's 19 fourth quarter points. Not bad for a guy in high altitude on the second night of a back-to-back.
Brooklyn NetsWhile their New York counterparts are off to a rolling undefeated start, the Nets have quietly pieced together a couple good wins, punctuated by topping the Celtics Thursday. Brook Lopez was fantastic inside while Deron Williams and Joe Johnson did enough. The Nets have been a bit up and down and while the Celtics played without Rajon Rondo, this moves Brooklyn to 5-2 on the year. Which is a major step forward from last season.
Kenneth FariedPeople are going to look at Faried's 18 points and 20 rebounds and wonder why he's only getting a B tonight. As fun, energetic, and awesome as Faried was on the court tonight, his defense was still lacking. He also made just 5-of-16 from the field and 6-of-10 from the free throw line. He also disappeared in the fourth quarter, probably because someone forgot to plug in his power source.
Avery Johnson's fouling strategyWith 19 seconds left and up four, Avery Johnson decided to intentionally foul Boston. Why? Who knows. Definitely not your every day strategy. It extended the game and while in the end it worked -- because Brooklyn worked -- the logic behind it really wasn't there.
San Antonio Spurs' outside shootingLast season, it was pretty rare that the Spurs lost a shootout. Not only did they tie with the Bulls for the best record in the NBA last season, but they also destroyed opposing teams with their outside shooting. Against the Knicks Thursday night, they took a broken jumper to a 3-point contest and could never get enough of them to fall. They made just 8-of-29 from downtown, while the Knicks connected on 11-of-25.
Boston's crunchtime free throw shootingPaul Pierce missed two big ones with 38 seconds left that would've cut the game to one. With 10 seconds left, Jason Terry missed the first down three, which forced him to intentionally miss the second. A couple makes from the stripe and it's a little different ballgame.
Ty Lawson and Danilo GallinariTy Lawson didn't score a single point in this game, going 0-of-7 in the game. He did manage eight assists but for 36 minutes of action, he didn't give them nearly enough. And as for Gallo, there is no explanation for how bad he was down the stretch of this game. The moment they went small and took JaVale McGee out of the game, Miami regained momentum. Keep Gallo out and McGee in, we might have had a different result.
