Timberwolves release Josh Howard after he tears ACL

By Royce Young | NBA writer

Josh Howard's time in Minnesota is over, and his career might be going with it.

The Timberwolves released the forward after just 11 games following a serious knee injury Howard suffered against the Hornets on Dec. 14. It was originally thought Howard hyperextended his knee, but it was discovered to be a torn ACL.

Howard, 32, has had a quality NBA career playing for the Mavericks, Wizards, Jazz and recently the Wolves. He hasn't officially said he's hanging up his sneakers, but seeing as he was a late signing for the Wolves, the demand for him isn't exactly high. Especially now, considering he's going to be coming off a major knee injury.

This is actually Howard's second torn ACL. He suffered the same injury in his left knee in 2010 while with the Wizards.

The Wolves have been bit often by the injury bug. Kevin Love, Chase Budinger, Brandon Roy and Malcolm Lee are all dealing with issues. Guard Ricky Rubio just returned from a torn ACL he suffered last season.

In 11 games, Howard averaged 6.7 points and 3.3 rebounds per game. The Wolves roster now stands at 14.
