Jazz guard Mo Williams (thumb) out indefinitely

By Royce Young | NBA writer

Just about a week ago, Mo Williams was sinking a game-winner for the Jazz. Now, he's out for an undetermined amount of time with a right-thumb injury.

The team announced an MRI showed damage to the thumb and said he'll be out indefinitely. A firmer timetable will be given after he's re-evaluated in Salt Lake City. If it's determined Williams needs thumb surgery, he'll likely be out 6-8 weeks.

Williams injured the thumb Saturday against the Heat. After the game he said, "Right now, I just can't feel it."

The injury happened in the second quarter when Williams swiped at the ball and hit Mario Chalmers' leg instead.

In Williams' place the Jazz will start Jamaal Tinsley. Behind Tinsley is Earl Watson. In other words, uh oh.

The Jazz have been rumored to be shopping players in the trade market, dangling either Al Jefferson or Paul Millsap out to the highest bidder. And with the issue with Williams and the fact the Jazz are still in search of a point-guard replacement after losing Deron Williams, they could be targeting that position.

Utah sits at 14-14, very much in the early playoff conversation in the West. But without Williams, who has been a pretty key addition, the Jazz could struggle to maintain that position.
