Derek Fisher re-signing with Thunder

By Royce Young | NBA writer

After trading away point guard Eric Maynor at the deadline, the Thunder are bringing in some added depth at the position.

First reported by ESPN.com and confirmed by multiple league sources, the Thunder are close to reaching an agreement with veteran point guard Derek Fisher.

Fisher, 38, spent the last half of last season with the Thunder after being traded by the Lakers to Houston and then bought out by the Rockets. In 20 playoff games for OKC, he averaged 6.3 points and 1.3 assists.

The Thunder have an open roster spot and only two point guards under contract and are looking to add a little security for the remainder of the year and postseason. The Thunder are currently very happy with second-year guard Reggie Jackson as their backup and likely view Fisher as a strong locker room presence and backup to the backup option.

Fisher signed earlier in the season with the Mavericks but appeared in only nine games before seeking release following a knee injury.
