NBA says officials missed Kobe's foul on Rubio

By Royce Young | NBA writer

The NBA announced Thursday that officials missed a foul on Kobe Bryant at the end of the Timberwolves-Lakers game won by Los Angeles 120-117 on Wednesday night.

"Video review by the league office confirmed that Kobe Bryant fouled Rubio while Rubio was in his shooting motion," the league said. "Rubio should have been awarded three free throws."

Ahead by three with 3.4 seconds left, Kobe Bryant missed a second free throw, opening the door for the Wolves

Ricky Rubio grabbed the rebound and headed for the 3-point line, letting fly a pretty good look. Kobe recovered to contest, and the ball came up woefully short. Rubio immediately protested. It was pretty clear that Kobe connected with Rubio's forearm.

Following the game, Kobe disagreed that it should've been called a foul.

"That's not a foul. They ain't calling that s---. I don't think I got him. That's a tough call to make," he said. "I just put my hand in. It's not like I went out and smacked him across the arm or anything."

Well, the NBA said you did. Not that it matters now, though. The Lakers still get the win regardless, one that they desperately needed. They lead Utah by one game for the eighth and final spot in the Western Conference.
