Steve Nash (hip) out Friday against Memphis

By Royce Young | NBA writer

Every game is of most import for the Lakers as they continue their push for the West's final playoff spot.

But Friday's game against Memphis, a big one, will be a little tougher as Steve Nash has been officially ruled out.

Nash is hampered by hip and hamstring soreness, which caused him to sit out Tuesday's win over the Mavericks. Nash has battled injury through the season, including back issues and a stress fracture he suffered in the second game of the season.

Without Nash, the starter will be Steve Blake, who has averaged 13.0 points and 1.0 assists in the Lakers' last two games.

The Lakers (39-36) currently hold a half-game lead over the Jazz for the eighth and final playoff spot.
