The Celtics announced that both Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett will sit against the Heat. And with LeBron James, Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh all missing Miami's game on Wednesday, there's a good chance they don't play, either.
Pierce and Garnett are said to be day-to-day with sore left ankles.
The thinking is the Celtics, who have slipped as of late, might be resting Garnett and Pierce in order to play them Saturday against the Magic, a game in which would lock up the No. 7 seed and avoid the Heat in the first round.
The Celtics sit at 40-38 and are just 4-6 in their last 10 games.
